Windows 8 not recognizing the Philips SPE3051CC/00 External HDD.

I have an existing external HDD as above which when connected does not get recognised by Windows 8, is there a simple work/fix around that I can try. All my precious backed up items are on this drive and need transferring to my new PC

    Dear,

Use the following procedure to recognise the external HDD only the PC:
    >Go to Control Panel and then to device manager after connecting the external hard disk.
    >In the device manager window, right click on “disk drives” menu, and select “scan for hardware changes”.
    >This will list the external hard disk. If the disk is not listed, try the same procedure after restarting your computer.
You can update the device drivers by right clicking on it and selecting “update driver software” through Internet.

    Thanks!

When the external HDD is not recognized, you should check the following reasons wheather they are present or not.1. Press F2, (it might vary depending on manufacturers) at the beginning of the Booting, to enter BIOS Setup. From options check if additional HDD Option is enabled or not. Enable if external drive is disabled. Press F10 to save and exit and reboot.2. Click START--CONTROL PANEL--DEVICE MANAGER--USB CONTROLLER--DRIVER--UPDATE DRIVER, and install latest generic driver for USB in Windows 8.3. Arrange to check the Connecting Port and the Connecting Cable if they are having some trouble in them, replace if necessary. Those measures will Help you restore normalcy and use the external HDD.
